Vogel Johnson Agar Medium (USP)

Vogel Johnson Agar Medium (USP) is a medium used for selective isolation of S. aureus.

Formula:

Casein peptone..................10.0
Yeast Extract......................5.0
D-Mannitol.......................10.0
Phenol Red.....................0.025
Dibasic Potassium 
Phosphate.........................5.0
Lithium Chloride..................5.0
Glycine...........................10.0
Agar...............................16.0
Final pH7.2±0.2 at 25℃

Directions:

Suspend 61.0g of the medium in 1 liter of distilled water. Boil the solution of solids for 1 minute. Autoclave 15min at 121℃. Cool to between 45 and 50℃, and add 20 mL of sterile potassium tellurite solution (1 in 100) .Mix thoroughly before dispensing.
